Shownotes Webwatching 10

There are over 120 million videos on YouTube, and hundreds more are added every minute. How do you make sure people find your video? In this episode of Webwatching, I talk to online video specialist Jeremy Vest about video SEO.

Jeremy gives 6 very relevant tips for optimizing YouTube videos: how to make sure your video matches popular search terms and the best ways to get your videos to rank higher in Google search results.

Before you start creating a video, think carefully about the topic. It is best to create something that people are actually searching for. For example, research YouTube and Google for popular videos in the same category, and connect your topic to popular search terms.
Social metrics are incredibly important on YouTube: how many times your brother cell phone list video is viewed, commented on, liked, etc. Don't be afraid to encourage your viewers to leave a comment or share the video.
Make a transcript or storyline of everything discussed in your video and put it in the YouTube description and on your website. This will make it easier for Google and YouTube to find your video.
Also useful for Google are a video sitemap and macro formats. There are several plug-ins that you can use to easily create a sitemap. This ensures that Google sees your videos immediately. In addition, with sitemaps and macro formats you can adjust your thumbnails and such to your own taste.
And finally, share your video! Jeremy gives some great tips for that!
