Google improves Bard to counter ChatGPT, here are the new features

Post by shukla7789 »

Two months ago, Google unveiled Bard , its ChatGPT alternative. Unfortunately, the chatbot did n't generate much enthusiasm . According to initial feedback, the conversational robot isn't up to par with its illustrious rival. Testers particularly lament the numerous restrictions put in place by the American company. In a further show of caution, Google has locked down the experiment to prevent abuse.

Aware of Bard's limitations, Google has committed to making improvements to its artificial intelligence. On April 10, 2023, the Mountain View giant put its money where its mouth is by rolling out "the inaugural update to the Bard experience . "

What's new for Bard, Google's ChatGPT?
Among the new features in this first update are "improved math and logic capabilities ." Testers had long criticized the exit mobile number database the AI reasoned. By Google's own admission, Bard "doesn't always provide the right answers to math and logic questions ." That's why Google is working to provide "better quality answers in these areas . "

"Now Bard will better understand and answer your word and math problems in multiple steps ," said Google product manager Jack Krawczyk on Twitter.

To improve its chatbot, the Mountain View giant relied on advances in the Pathways Language Model (PaLM), a more advanced linguistic model than LaMDA (for Language Model for Dialogue Applications), the model that powers Bard. Last week, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced the switch from one language model to another. With its 540 billion parameters, PaLM is designed to provide more relevant responses.

That's not all. The company has also improved the "Google it" button. This is designed to suggest search ideas to users. From now on, the interface will display more suggestions and related topics. Unsurprisingly, Google hopes this feature will encourage users to conduct other searches through the engine.

Google specifies that all new features and improvements to Bard will be listed on a dedicated page, titled "Experience Updates ." By carefully listing all changes made to the AI, Google is seeking to facilitate feedback from testers.

Bard will soon be able to write code
This first update doesn't address all of Bard's shortcomings. Despite these improvements, Bard may still occasionally experience "hallucinations." This problem, inherent to generative AI, causes the chatbot to spout nonsense. It is therefore still necessary to properly verify the information provided by the model, as is done with ChatGPT and its ilk.

Hope you've had a chance to start testing out Bard! We're constantly working on developing new features for it – today I wanted to share that we've improved Bard's capabilities in math and logic by incorporating some of the advances we've developed in PaLM. /1 pic.twitter.com/RNMC5S9cRU

The chatbot is also expected to suffer from a regular lack of sources, overly short or uninspired responses, and an inability to code . However, coding should be available soon in a future update, Krawczyk announced.

For now, Bard is still being offered as an experimental version . Google doesn't yet consider the chatbot a finished product. In fact, Bard is exclusively available in the UK and the US. Similarly, the chatbot only supports English, which puts it behind its many rivals. We're betting that Google will improve its copy as the chatbot is rolled out to the rest of the world.
