Claiming back taxes is of course not an easy task, certainly not when you are 14. And certainly because the Tax Authorities do not adapt their language. For example, we noticed that young people drop out when asked whether they have a WAJONG benefit. Or that they do not understand at all why young people can claim back taxes. They are not all going to google this themselves. So it is important to explain how things work and why it happens.
Give them responsibility
As a real client, the Tax and Customs Administration preferred that all that information would not be made brother cell phone list public. Young people are used to sharing a lot on social media and they often ask for feedback that way. The Tax and Customs Administration allowed them to share things, as long as they did not say that they were developing an app for the Tax and Customs Administration. The 7 young app developers handled this perfectly and did not reveal anything at all. Incidentally, the Telegraaf was so curious about the hashtag #36hours that they called the press officer.
Provide value and keep it fun
In the evening we offered the young people added value by inviting two app developers Renato Valdés Olmos and Jelle Prins . The learning we got from that is that young people ask a lot more questions during the drinks than during a question round.
